RECREATIONAL
Practices & Games
The Recreational program has two sessions or seasons, fall and spring. Team practices are typically held two nights per week for 60-90 minutes, depending on age level. For high school-age recreational teams (15U+), girls play in fall and boys play in spring (opposite the seasons they play for their public high school teams), so they only register for a half-season.
Each season includes eight games, four in Stoughton and four in communities in the
Madison Area Youth Soccer Association (MAYSA) region. These communities are in Dane and adjacent counties and usually require less than an hour of travel in one direction. Games are typically held on Saturdays or Sundays, but occasional weeknight games are a possibility.
Some teams participate in one or more weekend tournaments in any given fall or spring season.
Teams
Recreational teams are usually coed at the 9U level and sometimes at 10U. At 11U+, teams are usually boys or girls only. Teams are formed based on several factors, such as number of players and volunteer coaches available.
At the 9U/10U levels, teams are formed with an overarching philosophy of maintaining balance among rosters in terms of skill, experience, maturity, attitude, and focus, among other characteristics. At 11U+, skill and experience will begin to have greater weight in team formation decisions, and player evaluations by coaches and others will be taken into consideration.
Fees & Equipment
See our FAQ for current registration fees. There is an added cost for a kit (jersey and shorts). Socks, shin guards, and cleats are also required. Tournament participation is optional but usually includes an added cost.
